The 2023 Honda Civic vs the 2023 Hyundai Elantra

In the world of compact cars, the Honda Civic has long been a best-seller, at the top of its class. Especially since the improvements made to the new generation have resulted in a vehicle that’s even more high performing and efficient. However, competition is fierce in this highly popular niche, and the Hyundai Elantra is trying desperately to increase its market penetration.

We have to admit that the Elantra has some noteworthy qualities. So let’s see how the two most popular compact sedans of today stack up against each other.

A stylish silhouette for the 2023 Civic

Looks matter, especially when you’re part of a family that expresses its personality through unique style, having enjoyed a full-fledged image overhaul this year. The elongated headlights, dynamic silhouette, revised rear end and discreet grille all work in favor of the Civic. Meanwhile, hatchback versions complete the lineup.

The Hyundai Elantra, for its part, exhibits a prominent grille and more contemporary style. Although not everyone’s a fan, these aspects admittedly offer a certain level of refinement. We should point out, though, that the Elantra has a slightly shorter wheelbase than the 2023 Honda Civic, giving the Japanese compact the edge when it comes to room in the passenger compartment.

The 2023 Civic: power and versions

The entry-level 2023 Honda Civic comes with a 2.0 L four-cylinder 158-horsepower engine. However, the Touring version increases that power to 180 hp, thanks to the 1.5 L turbo engine it shares with the CR-V. Those looking for even more performance might set their sights on the Civic Si with its 200 horsepower or the extreme Honda Civic Type R with its 315 horsepower and exceptional six-speed manual transmission.

As for the 2023 Hyundai Elantra, it relies on a 147-horsepower base engine, stretching that power to 201 hp with the N-Line and to 276 hp with the Elantra N.

A more refined Civic for 2023

Beyond simple performance, the 2023 Honda Civic also boasts a fully redesigned passenger compartment, with comfortable, well-padded seats and an infotainment system that’s more ergonomic and user-friendly than ever. These are just some of the qualities that helped it earn the number one spot among The Car Guide’s Best Compact Cars of 2023.

The compact category is full of high-quality vehicles, like the Hyundai Elantra, but the all-new Honda Civic has what it takes to please even the most demanding motorists. It’s time for a visit to Lallier Honda so you can see it for yourself.
